Kidney Specialists of Southern Nevada
BACKGROUND
Kidney Specialists of Southern Nevada (KSOSN) is a nephrology-based practice comprised of 18 clinical providers located in Las Vegas. With six established locations, KSOSN is one of the largest specialty groups in the region. More than 10,000 patients are seen and treated on an annual basis, a number that has increased ten-fold since the practice was founded 30 years ago.
CHALLENGE
In early 2008, KSOSN was struggling to maintain consistent revenue to offset increasing expenses and overhead. As a result, profitability was suffering. Additionally, there was dissatisfaction among the clinical providers and employees with regards to medical decision-making. Communication was strained and sporadic. Unfortunately, efficiency was absent from the practice’s daily operations.
OPPORTUNITY
DoctorsXL implemented a variety of services that provided KSOSN with needed solutions and immediate results. A total of three services were executed: PracticeXL, TechnologyXL and RevenueXL.
RevenueXL, which is DoctorsXL’s revenue cycle management service, streamlined KSOSN’s billing processes through implementation of up-to-date medical coding tools and templates. DoctorsXL also enhanced the accuracy and submission processes of KSOSN’s accounts receivables.
DoctorsXL introduced KSOSN to cutting-edge healthcare technology through its TechnologyXL services. One of the implemented technologies included MobileXL, a mobile charge capture solution that enabled the physicians to capture charges in real-time when visiting with patients outside of the office. In addition, DoctorsXL provided desktop support for all sites and locations of KSOSN throughout Las Vegas.
PracticeXL practice management solutions helped KSOSN consolidate their efforts in accounting, market analysis and planning, business management, human resources and staff training and education. In addition, KSOSN’s providers were able to expand their ability to evaluate patients in additional local and regional healthcare facilities through DoctorsXL’s detailed physician credentialing services and payer contract negotiations.
RESULTS
Within three months, KSOSN was able to increase the scheduling efficiency of their clinical providers, decreased staff expense, boosted employee satisfaction and morale and gained significant growth in revenue. Inclusively, receipts were increased by more than 33%, accounts receivable had a 20-day improvement from baseline and an additional savings was recognized through contract renegotiation for malpractice insurance.
KSOSN greatly improved productivity while dramatically reducing common obstacles that had prevented them from advancing with their business model. With DoctorsXL’s team of experts, KSOSN was able to increase their local presence and take the practice to the next level.
